The Society's library includes books and pamphlets on Hertfordshire, with an emphasis on St Albans and books relevant to the Society's wider interests. Most of the books and journals may be borrowed by Arc and Arc members.
The library is in the former Judges' Robing Room in the Old Town Hall (the door is behind the counter of the Tourist Information Office) and is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until noon. If you cannot come during opening hours please contact the library team who can tell you what material is available and make photocopies. Limited Saturday openings might be possible if there is a demand.
The library team is Gill Harvey, Jon Mein, Donald Munro and Anne Wares, and can be contacted by email from our contacts page. More volunteers are needed to keep the library open on two mornings a week. You do not need to be a qualified librarian but will be shown how the catalogue works and asked to assist visitors in finding information – please contact the library team.
Ultimately there will be a fully computerised catalogue and bibliography of books, pamphlets, journal articles, reports and other sources on this website. There is a technical problem at present and until it is solved a simplified presentation of the catalogue is available below.
