Dear St Albans and Hertfordshire Architectural and Archaeological Society

I am writing to let you know that we are currently accepting applications for our 2011/12 part-time Certificate and Diploma courses here at the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE).

I hope the information below is of interest, and would be very grateful if you could circulate it to your members who may be considering part-time study.

Part-time courses in Archaeology, Historic Environment and Local History.

We offer undergraduate-level Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in Archaeology and Historic Environment, and a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Local History.

Certificate and Diploma courses are taught through weekly evening classes at Madingley Hall, an historic 16th-century country house on the outskirts of Cambridge with gardens laid out by Capability Brown.

Advanced Diplomas, on the other hand, are research-based courses of independent study with five supervisions in Cambridge - so can easily be studied at a distance.

See www.ice.cam.ac.uk/awards for more information.

Financial support - the ICE bursary scheme

This year for the first time we are offering a number of bursaries to self-financing students. Applicants who are new to higher education, new to ICE, or who are state-funded teachers will be eligible to apply.

The deadline for bursary applications is 12 August; however, late applications will be considered if funds remain available. The final deadline for course applications is 16 September.

Students will also have the option of paying course fees by instalments, to help spread the cost of study.

See www.ice.cam.ac.uk/bursaries for more information.

Course Directors

Our Course Directors are all University of Cambridge academics who are actively engaged in research.

  • Archaeology: Dr Gilly Carr
  • Historic Environment: Dr Susan Oosthuizen
  • Local History: Dr Samantha Williams

See www.ice.cam.ac.uk/people for full biographies, including research interests and publications.

Please don't hesitate to contact me at marketing@ice.cam.ac.uk if you have any questions or if you would like printed copies of our course leaflets.

Best regards
