Researcher for St Albans:   Help needed

The aim of this project is to map the historical geography of almshouse provision in England, Wales and Scotland from 1500 to 1914, to establish what numbers and categories of people they provided for, and under what administrative arrangements and rules they were run. It will also study provision for the elderly poor, particularly the relative contributions made by outdoor relief, workhouses and almshouses.

Kate Thompson (former County Archivist of Hertfordshire) has done the research on all the almshouses in the county except in St Albans which was to be covered by another researcher who cannot now do it. Kate does not have the time to do St Albans but it would be a great shame if it were omitted from the project.

Someone (or more than one) is needed to help with St Albans.
Please contact Kate at kathryn.thompson@ntlworld.com or 01462 621248.
