In 1891 the Blue Anchor Inn was occupied by Joseph Caddington aged 62 who was a Brewers labourer and Publican. Joseph was born in Harpenden. His wife Elizabeth is not marked as having any occupation she was 61 and was born in St. Albans. They have four daughters Fanny 28, Jane 25 and Minnie 19 are all straw hat machinists. Jane is 25 and a dress maker. All the daughters were born in St. Albans.
