In 1891 The Unicorn was occupied by John Chapman aged  56 he was the publican but was also a gardener. John was born in St. Albans. His wife Emily was aged 55 and her occupation was noted as home duties, she was also born in St. Albans. They have one son living with them , his name is James and he is 15. James is a page boy and was born in St. Albans. John and Emily also have Alfred North their 14 year old nephew living with them , he is an Errand boy born in Bromley, Kent. There are two ladies visiting Jane Faith Saunders a 23 year old domestic servant born  in Luton and Ellen E Chesham a 41 year old Housemaid ( domestic ) who was born at sea ! There are also three lodgers: Alfred Elborn a 20 year old groom born in St. Albans, Charles England a 48 year old widowed farm labourer born in Sandridge and James Howard, 69 a farm labourer born in St Albans.
