The location of the memorials and information about those named on them
SAHAAS First World War Home Front Research Group
As a piece of foundation work for the First World War project, the group with help from other Society members, produced a matrix that combines a list of the various memorials on which names are inscribed together with those names. The basis for this research are the names, addresses and brief service history of nearly 600 men who appear both on the City Memorial on St Peters Green and in the St Albans Roll of Honour. Around 65 percent of these names appear on at least one other memorial in the city and, with some recorded on as many as five, researchers may find useful clues about their education, occupation and religious beliefs. With this in mind, we have decided to make the matrix more widely available to help those who are researching the life of an individual or perhaps a group of men from a particular street or district in the city.
