Welwyn Archaeological Society - new talk added to 2017/18 programme

The meetings of the Welwyn Archaeological Society are held at the United Reformed Church Hall, Church Road, Welwyn Garden City, Herts AL8 6PS (opposite Sainsbury’s in the town centre). 19:45 for a 20:00 start.

The Roman archaeology of the Nene valley - Stephen Upex - POSTPONED DUE TO THE WEATHER

AGM followed by two contemporary films of the excavations at Verulamium in 1950s. These films have been digitised and restored by the "Filming Antiquity" project at UCL. One shows the lifting and conservation of a mosaic, and the other shows the excavation of the Insula XIV timber buildings (with dramatic special effects). The two films last about 45 minutes, and will be introduced by Caitlin O'Grady and Amara Thornton from the project.
