Research Our research groups cover both history and archaeology. The Research Committee stimulates and facilitates research by the groups and identifies topics for research. An example is the need for a comprehensive bibliography of sources for research into the history and archaeology of St Albans.
Archaeology The Archaeology Group carries out field walks, surveys, and digs, often in collaboration with the City’s professional archaeologists, and is currently investigating a villa site at Amwell and a Roman site at Cross Farm.
Property History Research Group This group has researched properties in St Peter’s Parish in the Borough of St Albans, recording construction details, history and occupations of each site on a computer database.
17th Century Population Research Group This group is building on work done by the former 17th Century Group. A database has been created of people living in St Albans in the seventeenth century bringing together information from many sources. New publications, talks and displays are on going.
