Open Lecture: A History of the White Hart in St Albans

at Zoom

Speaker – Jon Mein

This is a follow-up to Jon’s talk last year about the Red Lion Inn. With its imposing position on Holywell Hill, it might seem that the White Hart has always been one of the most successful of the town’s many inns. Charting the White Hart’s history from c.1500 to the early 1900s, this talk explores whether it was ever a top-notch inn.

Jon Mein has been a member of SAHAAS for 16 years and is currently editor of its Newsletter. He was co-editor of the Society’s book about the home front in St Albans in 1914-18 war and co-author of the Percival Blow publication. His primary interest lies in changing attitudes to alcohol in St Albans over the last 600 years and expects to see his book discussing this history on all good book shelves in 2024.

As this is one of the Society’s occasional open lectures, non-members may attend without charge.

This talk is on Zoom only. To register, please visit our Eventbrite page.
