In this lecture Prof. Breeze explores the various landscapes through which Roman frontiers ran, the threats faced by the Roman Empire and their impact on military deployment.

David Breeze holds honorary professorships from four universities. He has been president of several archaeological societies and has served as chair of the International Congress of Roman Frontier Studies. He is a leading authority on Roman frontiers, having excavated on both Hadrian’s Wall and the Antonine Wall and written about both, and also Roman frontiers in general and the Roman army. His current project is editing a series of multi-language books on the frontiers of the Roman empire published by Archaeopress.
