The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) is the largest, oldest and most technically expert charity fighting to save old buildings from harm. This talk will explain the Society’s approach to caring for old buildings, outline the wide variety of activities it undertakes today and present an account of the award-winning, SPAB-inspired work the speaker has carried out on his own Grade I- listed medieval house in Saffron Walden in
Essex.

Douglas Kent is a chartered building surveyor and Technical and Research Director at the SPAB. He publishes and lectures regularly on building conservation and has contributed to various radio and television programmes. Douglas also serves on many committees for organisations devoted to the historic built environment. He is the Chairman and a founder member of the Hundred Parishes Society.
