Seminar: the Straw Hat Trade in St Albans, c.1800-1940
January 21, 2021 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM at Zoom
Note: the following replaces the ‘burial practices’ seminar, details of which were published in the November newsletter.
When did the straw hat trade, a key industry, start in the town; who were the leaders; and where were their factories and workshops? How did the trade in St Albans differ from Luton, the dominant player for much of this period? Using original source material, we’ll endeavour to tell this story more reliably than has been hitherto done.
Anne Wares and Jon Mein will lead the discussion.
The Society’s seminars are for members only. Details of how to register will be emailed to members the week before the event.
