Leaded and Stained Glass Fitters and Manufacturers

By Jackie Mcall

I am researching the history of the above firm, set up in approximately 1924 in a workshop of Ernest Hooker's backgarden in Cavendish Road (he had formerly been apprenticed to H J Salisbury) and later moving to Albion Road.

As well as selling glass they carried out skilled craftsmanship, restoring windows, at amongst other places Coventry Cathedral and St Peter's, St Albans.

I would be grateful if anyone with any memories at all of the shop, the firm's work or employees could contact me at jackiemcall@hotmail.co.uk

Regards,  Jackie McAll (nee Hooker)

It's me again Jackie - just seeing that photo does something!! I've no idea why I would have wanted glass at aged around 12 but I do remember going up those steps and the bell on the door ringing! I probably leant my bike against the wall, and that would have been about 1943!

Hi Ron, If it is possible can you e mail me: jackiemcall [at]hotmail.co.uk, so that we can make contact. I am getting on admirably with my research and you may be able to put a bit of flesh on the bones, so to speak. I am also looking into whether Hookers put the stained glass in the windows of house in Breakspear Avenue and Camp Road, built by Frank Toogood. Cheers. Jackie
