Lecture: The long story of the short St Albans Canal
April 23, 2024 7:45 PM - 9:00 PM at Marlborough Road Methodist Church
Speakers: Frank Iddiols and Jon Mein
In 2013, Frank Iddiols and Jon Mein talked to the Society about the story of the canal linking St Albans to the wider world that came close to being built in the 1790s. Eleven years on, drawing on fresh research, they return to consider why the canal was never built, who was for and who was against the expensive proposals, and the planned route of both the canal and the replacement railway service.
Following a career in IT, Jon joined the Society some 17 years ago and is currently its newsletter editor. Having served an apprenticeship, Frank followed a career in construction becoming a college lecturer. He now helps the Society supporting audiovisual presentations at lectures and events as well as delivering his own talks on mapping and benchmarking.
