Seminar: People and property revealed in Sun insurance policies
September 19, 2019 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM at SAHAAS Library, Sandridge Gate Business Centre, Ronsons Way, St Albans, AL4 9XR
Speaker: Julia Merrick
Recognising the risk associated with fire in the late 17th century, in particular following the Great Fire of London, enterprising individuals began offering buildings insurance. In 1714, James Agutter’s policy 4199 on the Red Lyon in the Abbey parish was the first Sun fire insurance policy to be taken out for a building in St Albans. Policy registers give a wealth of information about people and their properties and have contributed much to what is known about St Albans properties, who owned them and occupied them.
To book a place, please email Kate Morris at firstname.lastname@example.org. There is no charge for members; non-members pay £5.00.
Please note: this topic and speaker replace the scheduled seminar about the Poor Law and St Albans which has been reorganised for 19 March 2020.
